Why does G Cloud Need all these Permissions?

Since G Cloud is a backup tool, it needs permissions to backup and restore your data.

Permission Why it is needed?
Your messages:

  • Read your text messages (SMS or MMS)

  • Edit your text messages (SMS or MMS)

  • Send SMS messages

  • Receive text messages (SMS)

 Because G Cloud can backup and restore messages.
Network communication:

  • Full network access

  • View network connections

  • View Wi-Fi connections

  • Connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi

  • Receive data from Internet

 Because:

  • G Cloud needs your WiFi connection to upload and download your data during the backup and restore processes.
Phone calls:

  • Read phone status and identity

 Because G Cloud supports backing up and restoring the call logs.
System tools:

  • Read battery statistics

  • Modify system settings

  • Test access to protected storage

 Because:

  • You can set G Cloud to whether or not run the backup depending on the battery level.
Your social information:

  • Read your contacts

  • Modify your contacts

  • Read call log

  • Write call log

 Because G Cloud supports backing up and restoring the contacts and the call logs.
Your accounts:

  • Find accounts on the device

 Because G Cloud supports backing up and restoring contacts from different accounts (like Facebook, Google …etc).
Affects battery:

  • Prevent device from sleeping

 If the app is open and running the backup, then it will not allow the device to go to sleep mode.
